Grit Camp Weeks 3, 4, and 5 Update from Summer 2024

The final 3 weeks of Grit Camp Summer 2024 were a smashing success!  We had our largest week of campers to date in week 3 with 83 campers, and we had another 91 kids come through the final 2 weeks.  Our counselor staff was amazing this summer, and we had 6 of them that were campers the past 4 summers but then graduated to be on our staff for this summer.  We really enjoyed being at Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church and the convenient location along with the variety of use around the campus:  3 sports fields, an indoor gym, a movie/craft room, the fellowship hall for meals and speakers, the field we used for the blowup waterslide on water days, and the drop off area that included our storage pod, picnic tables, basketball goals, 4 square volleyball net, axe throwing (plastic obviously), and corn hole.  Jen did a phenomenal job coordinating snacks and lunch each day, and we were happy to support local restaurants each day along with the North Florida School of Special Education that catered 6 different lunches for us throughout the summer.

Our speakers the last couple weeks included 2-time NCAA basketball champion from University of Florida - Lee Humphrey.  He had some amazing stories to share with the kids, and be sure to check him out on our next podcast episode that goes out this week as well. We also had Olympic Decathlete Garrett Scantling run a series of drills for the kids and spoke to them about his decision to start his training to compete in the Summer Olympics in LA in 2028!

To hear Garrett and Lee speak at camp, go to the 1:59 minute mark on this video:  https://youtu.be/bmC1w4IyhxM?si=uMJUB4CA99VHGPlR

Here are a couple videos from two of the final weeks of camp.  Enjoy!
